While it’s a huge number, half of those adults are over 50. People with dry eye disease report difficulty in reading, using electronics and driving. The eyes can’t take any strain. In its critical form, dry eye can cause inflammation as well.

Dry eyes can result from a multitude of factors

  • Normal aging process
  • Exposure to environmental conditions
  • Problems with normal blinking
  • Use of certain medications including antidepressants.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Therapy

A long-term solution to a recurring problem.

IPL (or intense pulsed light) is well known for hair removal and reduction of skin pigment. But recent research studies have shown that IPL treatment has shown significant improvement in the quality of the tear lipid layer thus preventing tear evaporation – but the exact mechanism of action is still being investigated.  The pulsed light delivered to the eyelid region is believed to stimulate the meibomian glands, and reduce inflammation, so that they can function normally. Its quick, painless and you feel significant improvement after the first session. The treatment involves three sessions 1 month apart and takes about 15 minutes each. During the treatment, the laser may feel like a ‘pinch’  or minor ‘sting’. IPL is an adjust therapy to managing chroinic druy eye disease and provide an effective alternative to cure dry eyes.

Our patients have typically noticed results after the second or third treatment session.

Eligibility

While Dry Eye Disease is a chronic condition which can have various underlying causes, IPL is an exciting adjunct therapy which may help to reduce your symptoms associated with Meibomian gland dysfunction.  Book your eye test today to see if you are suitable.
